Brochure

Journal 19:

The product that we are selling is the Dishrainer. This project would be a smaller dishwasher designed to be more portable than regular dishwashers. It is also designed to fit in smaller spaces such as college dorms, apartments, and RVs. We thought that many college students complain about having to do the dishes and want a faster way. We also noted that there are few locations within the upperclassmen dorms to wash dishes as there are no dishwashers in either the dorm kitchens or the community kitchens. We would probably want to use testimonials from current college students and other users. We might also use testimonials from college officials to sell the products to not just the students, but the housing staff. We would probably want to use images that fit the product’s themes, such as clouds and the sky. We could design a logo incorporating these elements, especially the cloud, as that is what the product is designed to look like. We would also use images of college students or others in spaces that would fit where the Dishrainer is marketed, such as college dorms, RVs or vans. The brochure’s feel would reflect the products’ bright sunny vibes.

Journal 20:

It is interesting that the AIDA model can still be used within a brochure model. Most of what we have discussed as part of the AIDA model have been single, written documents, usually found within a single sheet of paper. However, the AIDA model can be broken down by panels within the brochure to still function, with the first few panels being the attention grabber, which would make sense. A brochure is usually all folded up, meaning that the first thing a person would see is the cover, just like a book. So, it would have to be attention-grabbing for the reader to choose and pick it up. It’s also interesting that the action section is clearer with this document than the others, as actions are usually what brochures are pushing. Some brochures are for products and other brochures are for services. But, both require action, usually through contacting the product or service. So, it is not uncommon for a map, a website, and a phone number to be provided to take action, whether by applying for a job or booking a hotel room for a weekend getaway.

Journal 23:

Group projects are not my favorite thing to work on. As I had described to my roommates, my ability to work on them takes the lowest priority out of all my assignments. This is because other assignments I can complete will be guaranteed to be done and finished by someone else, meaning I’m the only one who can do it. That is not necessarily the case when it comes to group projects. But, I ultimately had fun with the project when I sat down and worked on it with my group. Thankfully, both of my groupmates were reliable, making it easier than other group projects. One of the interesting aspects that I learned while working on the project was the technical aspects of making the brochure. I had worked with Canva before, mainly designing posters and Instagram posts for the club I’m involved with. Working with the brochure program was a whole other story. It didn’t feel as intuitive as the other programs, especially with the layout of the panels for the brochure. When we eventually printed out the brochure for the presentation, the panel that was supposed to go on the back was folded into the brochure instead. But, I’m glad I’ve had this experience so that I could use this current project as a sandbox if I’m asked to do something similar in the future with a future job.
